☕ Good morning, Long Island! Nick here — filling in for Mike this week while he’s off enjoying some well-earned family vacation time. Hope everyone had an awesome Fourth of July weekend. Still can’t believe Joey Chestnut guzzled down over 70 hot dogs again. Legend. 🌭

☀️ Today will be mostly sunny with a high near 89. There’s a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m.

🗳️ Last week's poll results are in, and it was a landslide. Nearly nobody wants us to start covering Brooklyn or Queens. Thanks for your participation in helping us curate this newsletter for Long Islanders.

A message from Bango

Bango, one of the fastest-growing fast-casual restaurant brands in the U.S., is expanding again — this time with two new locations on Long Island.

First, this Long Island pizzeria ranked No. 3 best slice in the U.S. — again

🇮🇹 Taglio Pizza has done it again. Rob Cervoni, who opened Long Island’s first Roman-style pizzeria in Mineola in 2018, said the continued recognition from the international group is “still surreal.”

🍕 In more pizzeria news, after serving generations of customers, Domenico’s Pizza in Levittown has officially closed its doors.

Second, LIRR to debut new trains in 2029, replacing decades-old ones

🚅 The Long Island Rail Road’s decades-old M-3 railcars are finally headed for retirement — and some sleek, modern replacements are on the way.

Third, Mastic Beach ranch lists for $279K, just a block from the bay

🏠 Three bedrooms, hardwood floors and ocean beaches within walking distance — this Mastic Beach home delivers unexpected value at $299,900. Click here for details and photos.

More headlines to highlight

🎆 The Town of Oyster Bay’s “Salute to America” concert and Grucci fireworks are set for Tuesday, July 8, at 7:30 p.m. at John Burns Park with live music by Decadia. Fireworks in Long Beach, Rockville Centre, and Shelter Island follow this weekend.

📸 The third installment of Wantagh’s Thursday Night Live summer festival series took place last week — and the Greater Long Island team was there to capture all the action.

🦈 Nassau County officials are beefing up beach patrols and issuing reminders about ocean safety after a woman was recently bitten by a sand tiger shark last week at Jones Beach.

🌮 Lucharitos announced this week that its general managers have become eligible to earn up to 10% of net profits at their respective restaurants.
